The stories below are entries written by Heather Haze for the annual Flash Fiction Challenge hosted by NYC Midnight. This popular writing contest attracts thousands of hopeful writers of all skill levels from around the world. There are four rounds to each contest. In each round, writers are randomly assigned to a sub-group with a specific genre, object and location. Writers then have only 48 hours to write an original story of no more than 1,000 words, using the given prompts. Each story is reviewed by a panel of judges, and the top stories are scored. The scores from the first two rounds are added together, and the top five writers in each sub-group progress to the third round. That round is similarly judged. The finalists go on to the fourth and final round, in which the remaining writers compete for generous cash prizes, along with several writing-related prizes.
The Flash Fiction Challenge is a fun and rewarding experience for writers of all levels. For more information, please visit http://nycmidnight.com
